Senior Pet Care
Scott County Animal Hospital believes in a strong senior pet program to ensure that your pets live long and happy lives. Our senior program aims to fully-evaluate your pet's health and provide you with information to help prevent old-age diseases, and to help manage problems as they develop.
Pets are considered seniors at age 7. Because pets age faster than humans, we recommend that every pet over the age of 7 receive a wellness exam every 6 months. This allows us to detect diseases (such as liver, heart, or kidney diseases) at very early stages so that we can start interventional treatment.
We offer a Senior Wellness Package to assist in providing optimum care to your senior pet. This package includes the semi-annual wellness exams, bloodwork, urine and stool testing, heartworm test, blood pressure measurement, arthritis evaluation, and nutritional consultation. All these services are provided at a package price, which reduces the cost compared to individual testing.
Common problems seen in senior cats and dogs include obesity, arthritis, dental disease, liver disease, kidney failure, heart disease, and vision or hearing loss.
